The fall season joke is always about how pumpkin spice is overused in baking, unfortunately, with Celiac Disease you don’t get to experience it as much. You don’t realize how much you miss it until you can’t have it. Terrific if you have a sweet tooth because these pumpkin spice pancakes are covered in a caramel drizzle sauce and sprinkled with pecans.

It’s not very often we get seasonal breakfast food so definitely suggest these pancakes!

According to the Tim Horton’s Allergen Chart, the following breakfast items do not have any gluten-containing ingredients:

  • All beverages
  • Hashbrowns
  • Egg patties, omelettes, and scrambled eggs
  • Bacon, ham, and sausage
  • Processed cheese
  • Chili
  • Hearty Bacon Potato Soup
  • Turkey & Wild Rice Soup
  • Creamy Sundried Tomato Soup


However, the allergen chart also states: “If you have a food allergy we recommend that you refrain from eating our products. Although we take precautions, it is impossible to guarantee that our products have not come into contact with peanuts, nuts or other allergens.”

The sole option that is safe for Celiacs are items produced and packaged in a dedicated gluten-free facility. Right now, that’s just the coconut macaroons. We’re hoping to see more choices!

Breakfast Bistro opened its doors in September, 2014. We may be the new kid on the Regina restaurant block, but we will soon be your favourite! Our goal is to take our menu a step-up from original breakfast diners, using inspired ingredients and offering a variety of options to suit the tastes and dietary needs of our clients.

In the meantime, here are a few meals that do not contain gluten as an ingredient. However, we must advise you that all our griddles are at some point in contact with gluten, therefore, cross-contamination will occur.”

Some locations have chosen to offer gluten free bread, but you’d have to call the location closest to you to find out. Please be advised that we do not have a toaster reserved to that effect (some locations will toast it in the salamander).

Originally built as a private home in 1913 for Jacob P. Brown, this historic building has catered to Regina residents as a restaurant since 1979, almost 30 years ago.

The Fireside Bistro opens weekdays at 11:00am, weekends at 10:00am, with Sunday Brunch, features a beautiful fireside patio, a casual lounge, and private & semi-private meeting and dining rooms. Please call for reservations.

The Fireside Bistro is locally owned and operated by Scott Aspelieter and his wife who also own Zoe’s Boutique located on the main floor of the Old City Hall Building on Scarth Street and 11th Avenue across from the Cornwall Center.

Burger King has breakfast options that should be safe for the gluten-intolerant, as long as you skip the croissant (not kidding!) or toasted bun.

Burger King has breakfast options. Their gluten-free breakfast items include:

  • Omelet
  • Sausage patty
  • Sliced ham
  • Bacon
  • Strawberry banana smoothie

Burger King has breakfast options that should be safe for the gluten-intolerant, as long as you skip the croissant (not kidding!) or toasted bun, However your options for the rest of the day are pretty limited, however. You’re best to stick with their TenderGrill chicken filet (not the original chicken filet), steakhouse patty, or Whopper patty. Their condiments, including cheese and bacon, are all fine. As for salads, stay away from the Caesar as the dressing contains wheat. The BLT salad and the rest of the dressings should be OK. As well, their French fries should be gluten-free and cooked separately, but double-check when ordering. Please note that this information is based on their allergen guide from early 2013, which has gone missing from the Burger King website. The current allergen guide only contains nutritional information such as calorie and fat count. More information might be available in-store.
