Kristen’s Cultures

Nature’s Best Market is now carrying Kristen’s Cultures’ spicy Kombucha Mustard!

And they have samples. 😋

‘prō·bī·ô·tics:
friendly, gut-healing bacteria and yeast which:
-fight off the growth of harmful bacteria and yeast
-promote a healthy digestive system
-strengthen the immune system
-heal the gut by restoring gut flora (especially important after taking antibiotics!)

-detoxify your body, ridding it of toxins
-prevent and treat diseases

Fermented foods/drinks are superior to probiotic pills because they:

-cost less: generally, 1-2 bites/sips contain as many probiotics as a whole pill

-are more easily assimilated into your body because of their Real Food form

-contain plenty of vitamins, enzymes and healing acids as well as probiotics

Did you know that your body actually contains more bacterial cells than it does human cells?  Amazing!

Your gut contains about 3lb of bacterial cells, all of which are extremely important to your body’s overall physical, mental and emotional well-being!

According to Hippocrates, father of modern medicine, “All disease begins in the gut.”

You need tons of probiotics to keep your immune system strong and able to fight off intruders, especially after taking antibiotics (which kill the good along with the bad).

Not only do probiotics balance out your gut, but they also help to detoxify your body, getting rid of toxins that have built up over the years, and help you to heal from various ailments with their amazing enzymes, healing acids and food-based vitamins.

Fermented foods/drinks are not only a delicious way to get probiotics into your body, but they are also cheaper and more readily assimilated into your body than probiotic pills are, because of their Real Food form.

🍔 This is a simple, delicious way to incorporate important probiotics into your diet! Spread this old-style dijon on to your sandwich, burger, or pair with meat/fish. 🥪

Not only will your taste buds fall in love, but because your gut health affects your overall health, this mustard will help your immune system, digestion and much more. (Check out my website and Google to learn about the amazing benefits of probiotics.)

CFIA warning about gluten-free beer ‘huge’ for Regina brewery

CFIA warning about gluten-free beer ‘huge’ for Regina brewery

REGINA, SASK : DECEMBER 16, 2014. Brewmaster Mark Heise at Rebellion Brewery for a story on government regulations. BRYAN SCHLOSSER/Leader-Post.
Rebellion Brewing Co. brewmaster Mark Heise says SLGA’s decision to stop stocking a popular gluten-free beer could be “huge” for his company. BRYAN SCHLOSSER / REGINA LEADER-POST

The Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority’s decision to stop selling a popular gluten-free lager could be a “massive” opportunity for a Regina-based brewery that uses lentils grown in the province to make its own celiac-friendly beer.

“It’s huge for us,” Rebellion Brewing Co. brewmaster Mark Heise said of the Crown corporation’s decision to cease ordering Estrella Daura — which is brewed in Spain by S.A. Damm — following a warning from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).

SLGA said it could not provide sales statistics for Estrella Daura, but Heise said its absence from bars is expected to boost sales of Lentil Cream Ale, which Rebellion and the Saskatchewan pulse company AGT Foods and Ingredients Inc. launched in late 2015.

The CFIA advised SLGA and other liquor jurisdictions to “put the product on hold” last month after it became concerned that Estrella Daura was made using products that contain gluten, SLGA spokesman David Morris said in an email.

The Crown corporation plans to sell the “very limited stock” remaining in 20 of its stores and ship all of the beer left in its warehouse back to its suppliers, Morris said, adding that other liquor jurisdictions made similar decisions.

S.A. Damm did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The company said on its website that it guarantees Estrella Daura’s gluten content is three parts per million or fewer — below the accepted gluten-free threshold of 20 parts per million.

Arno Oldach, co-owner of the Yard & Flagon and Rook and Raven pubs in Saskatoon, said having a gluten-free beer like Estrella Daura is important as people become more concerned about diet, and that he plans to replace it with Rebellion’s lentil ale.

“That’s what we’ve decided to put on tap in lieu of another option,” he said. “And it sells fairly well. I’m not sure if anyone else is offering a gluten-free option in the form of draft.”

No Bake Chocolate oat Bar

The oats give them a delicious crunch, and the chocolate drizzle gives them the perfect amount of sweetness. Even better? All you need to do is mix them up, stick them in the fridge, and enjoy. Let us demonstrate this simple sweet, then read on for the full recipe so you can try them yourself.

Makes 16 to 20 bars
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: 2 hours 15 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • ½ cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 3 cups rolled oats (Gluten Free)
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips
  • ¾ cup chunky peanut butter

Directions

  1. Line a 8-inch-by-8-inch baking dish with parchment paper, and set aside.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine the butter, brown sugar and vanilla extract. Heat over low-heat, until the butter has melted and the sugar has dissolved.
  3. Add the oats, cinnamon and kosher salt. Cook, stirring constantly, for 4 to 5 minutes.
  4. Pour half of the oat mixture into the prepared baking dish. Spread out the mixture evenly, pressing down.
  5. In a small microwave-safe bowl, combine the chocolate chips and the peanut butter. Heat on high in the microwave, in increments of 40 seconds, stirring in between each increment, until melted and fully combined.
  6. Pour ⅘ of the chocolate mixture into the pan over the pressed oats, reserving about ¼ cup for drizzling. Top with the remaining oats and drizzle with the remaining ¼ cup chocolate mixture.
  7. Refrigerate for 4 hours, or until set.

Five Guys

The Five Guys Story

Five Guys has been a Washington, DC area favorite since 1986 when Jerry and Janie Murrell offered sage advice to the four young Murrell brothers: “Start a business or go to college.”The business route won and the Murrell family opened a carry-out burger joint in Arlington, Virginia.

Under the guidance of Jerry and Janie, the Murrell family served only hand-formed burgers cooked to perfection on a grill along with fresh-cut fries cooked in pure peanut oil. The little burger joint quickly developed a cult-like following. Press paid attention. Customers voted the burger”#1” in the metro area.

Five-GuysDuring the 1980’s and 1990’s the Murrell family perfected their simple system. Five Guys was The Place to get a fresh, juicy burger with all the toppings you could stuff between fresh-baked buns. A fifth brother was born and, as their family grew, so did their business. Four more restaurants with sit-down seating were added to accommodate the growing clientele.

Early in 2003 Jerry and Janie, together with the five”guys” began offering franchise opportunities. In just under 18 months, Five Guys Enterprises sold options for over 300 units. The overwhelming success of franchising a local restaurant made national news with articles in trade publications such as Nation’s Restaurant News, Restaurant Business Magazine, and the Franchise Times.

Now, over 20 years after Five Guys first opened, there are over 1,000 locations nationwide and over 1500 units in development. Five Guys continues to receive media attention and has grown a cult-like following around the world.
